Workers have begun the preparation work to enable the installation of traffic signals at the Wickham’s Cay II intersection in Road Town. Trinidadian firm JoClaud Enterprises Limited has been contracted to install the lights.

The Government has since disclosed, that a total of three signalized intersections will be located on Tortola, after the installation of the traffic signals at the Wickham’s Cay II Intersection; the others being located at the Station Avenue and James Walter Francis Intersection, and the Admin Drive and Waterfront Drive Intersection.
Works Minister, Julian Fraser said ‘The low cost of the project is a demonstration of Government’s commitment to efficiency in project expenditure, as the equipment to be utilized was taken from our inventory,’ he stated in a Government Information Service press release.
The Minister emphasized that the lights are needed, and stated that Wickham’s Cay II continues to undergo development and expansion through land reclamation, building construction and improvements to the yachting marina facility.

The Works Minister stated that it is important to note that several other options were considered prior to the Cabinet decision. However, traffic signals at Wickham’s Cay II have been identified as the best way forward to provide a solution to safer accessibility to and from the Cay, given the increasing volume of traffic. Works are expected to conclude early next month.
