‘BVI In Times Past’ was first staged before a sold out audience at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Eileen Parsons Auditorium as part of the BVI Festival of Arts activities.
It was held over and delighted the residents and those on VIRGIN ISLAND VACATION who attended Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Road Town last weekend. Lots of people were turned away at the first staging due to the unavailability of seats, forcing organizers to stage this second performance.
The play, which is set in the period 1940’s to late 1960’s, depicts scenes of VI roots, heritage and culture.
The play also spoke to the themes of the importance of the family structure and the solid foundation laid for the welfare of the family when men were breadwinners and shouldered their responsibility to support their family.
The play-writer, Ms. Janice Stoutt, is a Virgin Islander and Barrister-at-Law who is passionate about her culture, heritage and country.
