The annual Rotary Club of Road Town’s Kite Flying Competition, was held opposite the cruise ship pier in Road Town yesterday, March 30th.
The event attracted a wide cross-section of residents who and even visitors to the Virgin Islands on their VIRGIN ISLAND VACATION who wanted to capture the excitement and the colorful kites flown by the participants.
The Best Local Kite went to Leroy James for his box kites. The Prettiest Kite award went to the colorful bird kite flown by little Denequa McSheen. The Longest Tail Award went to Demoi Marton of Enis Adams Primary School.
The judges awarded Marlon D’Aguir first place in the highest flying kite category, over radio personality, DJ Turbo, who had won the award in previous years. D’Aguir’s two year-old son, Marlon Jr. took the award for the Youngest Flyer.
Project Co-coordinator of this year’s kite flying event was Rotarian, Mr. Shan Mohamed, Managing Director of Nagico Insurances BVI.
‘It was a wonderful day for a number of families who spent quality time together trying to raise their kites. In the end that is what we want to promote as Rotarians,’ Mr. Mohamed stated.
