The Government of the Virgin Islands is committed to the continued development of cruise tourism to enhance the experience for visitors on a BVI VACATION.
At the recent cruise pier development community meeting, Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool said he was pleased with the level of interest of the stakeholders that attended.
He stressed that the development of the pier is paramount, if the Territory is to keep pace with the changing needs of the cruise tourism industry.
Executive Director, Mr. Hugh Daley of Tortola Port Partners outlined how the development would look and its benefits to the people of the Territory.
Minister Vanterpool revealed that the developer would make a $75-million investment in the project. He explained that $25 million will go towards the expansion of the pier and the installation of an excursion dock; $25 million to develop the landside; and another $25 million to improve the capital, historical sites, and beach attractions. Minister Vanterpool made it clear that the management of the port will remain solely under the control of the BVI Ports Authority.
