Save Me! I’m a Wreck!
Save Me! I'm a wreck!
Leverick Bay,Virgin Gorda
The Connor Residence at Leverick Bay – just a short stroll from the beach, marina, docks, restaurant, beach bar, pool, shops etc – was a delightful three bedroom home with Guest Cottage. Having been ‘gently persuaded’ over many, many years, by his long suffering, ever loving wife, the Owner had poured his soul, and more besides, into renovating their family home. Sadly he had all but finished just as Irma hit.
The author was actually a tenant in the Guest House many moons ago and, having spent many a pleasant, alcohol assisted evening in this home, he can vouch for the spectacular views of North Sound and cooling trade wind breezes which seemingly funnel up the Valley providing very natural air conditioning.
So what’s left of value? Well, the cisterns, foundations and ground floor slab, and driveway were all solidly built of reinforced concrete. Not to mention the half walls of beautiful natural local stone. The kitchen, whilst exposed to the elements, features concrete countertops that could conceivably be salvaged and restored. The garage/storeroom below the Guest studio is still intact. And of course the views across North Sound to Prickly Pear and Necker Island in the distance are more glorious than ever!
Almost all of the hurricane damaged homes on Virgin Gorda have now been sold and have been restored or will be very shortly. The Connor Residence represents one last opportunity to purchase a home on Virgin Gorda at a reasonable price. Once the $30m plus homes on Moskito Island, just across the Sound, are all completed and occupied and The Bitter End Yacht Club, Biras Creek, Saba Rock, Little Dix Bay are completed and up and running again, it doesn’t take much imagination to guess what is going to happen to property prices in the North Sound in the near future.
