Occasionally you find one of those rare properties that is truly magazine worthy- one where you almost feel as if you have fallen into the glossy pages of Architectural Digest as you enter the home. Turpentine House is exactly that and we are proud to include it as one of our listings for sale. It was a project where the owners took painstaking care when building to get every last detail perfect and the culmination is a refined and sophisticated dwelling unlike any other.
A private driveway with lush foliage leads you up to the residence whose vibrant ochre walls immediately invite you to enter. Opening the oversize teak double wooden front door (which was hand carved in Indonesia) you look onto the infinity edge pool and inner courtyard. The pool has a waterfall overflow feature and beyond it are stunning views of the Sir Francis Drake Channel. On the right are the three bedrooms and on the left is the living pavilion. The dramatic pitched roofs on both units and the covered patio between are covered in pine shingles.
The dramatically high ceilinged living pavilion consists of the living and dining room with an elevated kitchen which leads to a magical exterior kitchen and dining area. The outdoor kitchen is extremely charming with open arches, polished concrete countertops, a BBQ and a sink area. All appliances in the main kitchen are top end and the countertops polished concrete. The entire house has French stucco walls which were meticulously done by hand and slate tile flooring sourced from South Africa. A wonderful personal touch are the unique copper light fixtures throughout the property which are made by the artist owners.
Above the kitchen/ dining/ living is an open loft, currently used as an office and is reached by a floating wooden staircase which encircles around a massive Kabukalli wooden beam. It also has a balcony which looks onto the outdoor kitchen. The porch which starts inside the courtyard, wraps all the away around the living pavilion to the outside kitchen space. There is a guest bathroom located off of the courtyard and living space. All the bathrooms in the house are very spacious and have polished concrete vanities and rain-head showers.
The bedroom pavilion has two guest suites on the pool level, both with their own en suite bathrooms. They are accessed from another covered patio which also starts inside the inner courtyard. The laundry room is also on this level.
Upstairs is the very private master suite which takes up the entire top level. It has all the bells and whistles one could want- a large walk in closet, double sinks and an enormous double shower definitely meant for sharing. A private balcony looking out onto the turquoise waters below completes the floor.
At many points around the home are various seating areas, some for two and some for groups. One of the most charming is a built in banquette in the inner courtyard area with brightly colored throw cushions and ottomans to put your feet up on.
The jewel in the center of the inner courtyard is the pool which is surrounded by an Ipe wood deck- perfect for sunbathing in utter privacy. The pool has a shallow seating platform with spa jets to truly make the experience as pampering as possible.
There is a huge workshop under the home which could easily be made into a self sufficient apartment. It has a half bathroom and has high enough ceilings to add a loft. Beyond this are the three cisterns, totaling 40,000 gallons.
