Sitting on the most Northern point of the British Virgin Islands, Anegada stands out from all its sister islands due to the fact that it is virtually flat. The highest point of Anegada is just 28 feet above sea level and the Islands remarkably low profile explains why it is also refereed to as the “drowned land”. - RMS Rhone - RMS Rhone is a fantastic historical shipwreck located just off Salt Island which sank during the hurricane in 1867. RMS Rhone is today one of the Caribbean's most popular wreck dives and was even used to create underwater scenes for the classic 1977 film “The Deep”. The deeper bow section is still in tact and lies approximately 75-85 feet under the seas surface and features the “lucky porthole” which divers rub for luck creating a still shinny brass effect and the shallower stern lies at approximately 40-60 feet under. In this protected area you can actually swim though chunks of the hull, colorful coral, schools of vibrant fish, turtles and much more!
- Flamingo Pond - Located right in the center of Anegada Island, flamingos and several other sea birds have been re-introduced to this protected pond area. Flamingo salt pond is the largest of the four ponds occupying almost a quarter of Anegada's total land mass and the blue water mixing with the pink flamingos is quite a sight. This small pond has a small but growing population of Caribbean flamingos which are the second largest of the species as they sometime grow up to 5ft tall.
Dining and Night Life on Anegada:
Athough there are only a handful of bars and restaurants on the island, they are all perfect for an evening out with excellent service, food, drink and views. One of the most popular dining venues in Anegada is the Neptunes Treasure and known world wide for its outstanding lobster however there is also an array of local homemade dishes on the menu for those who would prefer something else. Please note that due to the popularity of this restaurant a reservation is required before 4pm on the day. If you are looking for more of an afternoon snack or light lunch then you can always pop next door to Pam's Kitchen where you can sample an array of freshly baked breads, sweet pastries and smooth ground coffees. With over 11 miles of pure white sandy beaches Anegada is the perfect place to do some beach bar hopping and explore the surrounding scenery whilst sipping on a cool refreshing cocktail. All the beach bars on this island are fantastic and not only offer you great drinks and snacks but breath taking views as well. One of the most popular bars is located on the northern shores of Loblolly Bay and goes by the name of “Big Bamboo”. Suited to all travelers including family’s with young children, the Big Bamboo has restrooms, showers, a gift shop and a separate restaurant if you wish to dine in the evening. The outside area is full of palm tress, hammocks, tables and most importantly shade, you can easily spend the day relaxing and watching the world go by.
Buying Property in the British Virgin Islands:
If you are looking to purchase real estate in the BVI, then the whole process is fairly straight forward providing you find an experienced and knowledgeable estate agent, however there are a few facts and requirements that all new buyers need to consider first.
